Ubisoft wil Electronic Arts 'verslaan'

De rivaliteit tussen Ubisoft en Electronic Arts laait weer een beetje op nu eerstgenoemde heeft gezegd dat ze EA willen verslaan. Deze uitspraak is gedaan in een recent interview met Reuters. Het conflict tussen beide bedrijven is begonnen toen EA twintig procent van de aandelen van Ubisoft opkocht in 2005.

"Our goal is not to sell to EA but to beat EA," commented Ubisoft North America president Laurent Detoc regarding the company's early investment in the Wii. Ubisoft has eight Wii titles currently in development, including Rayman Raving Rabbids, Monster 4X4 World Circuit, Open Season, and Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, as well as Wii-exclusives Red Steel and GT Pro Series. The company is also developing a version of its popular first-person shooter Far Cry for the upcoming platform. Each of these titles is expected to be available for the Wii's launch in November.

Ubisoft is er dus duidelijk van overtuigd dat het meeste geld straks binnen te slepen valt met de Wii. Volgens Laurent Detoc is het ook hoogst onwaarschijnlijk dat Wii zal floppen. 'De Wii-controller en de nieuwsgierigheid-factor zullen mensen overhalen het systeem in huis te halen', aldus Laurent.
