Guitar Hero designer over Wii en Guitar Hero

In een interview met The Wiire vertelt Rob Kay, Harmonix Senior Designer en Guitar Hero Lead Designer, over Mario, de Wii en natuurlijk over Guitar Hero.

Een aantal interessante opmerkingen zullen we hier samenvatten. Kay begon over Mario Galaxy en was daar erg enthousiast over: Oh my God! I love this thing they have done with the planets and how you run around them!

Toen Kay hoorde dat zowel de Wiimote als de Nunchuck motion-sensors had ging hij denken aan de muziekgames die erop mogelijk zouden zijn. Natuurlijk was een trommelgame zijn eerste gedachte: Ah, wouldn't it be great do drum with this.

Op de vraag of er een Guitar Hero mogelijk zou zijn die zou werken met de Wiimote kwam er een lang antwoord. Het is zeker mogelijk, maar de manier waarop de gitaar dan zou werken vergt nog wel wat denkwerk: Well I guess if that situation were to arise we would have to consider: do we want it to be a stand alone controller where it had nothing to do with the Wii remote, or do we want it to plug into the Wii remote? I guess you could do that for some advanced tilt type mechanisms, it's got all that advanced movement and rotation data, so maybe we could use that for when you lift your guitar up, your avatar in game, he's doing the exact same thing as you. Yeah, you can totally imagine it as being an awesome way to play. And also the fact that it's got a speaker. That is huge. Absolutely huge. I can see that being a feature with music games. Tevens is de speaker in de Wiimote een leuke toevoeging in muziekgames: One of the things that's really helpful with that, is if all of the players have their own speaker, they can hopefully get their own unique stream of audio feedback, which could be big. I'm excited.

Tot slot nog wat zaken over Guitar Hero. De game is niet Sony exclusief: Guitar Hero is not limited to Sony. It is not an exclusive title, and there is not a deal with Sony or anything like that. Red Octane decided to release Guitar Hero for Playstation 2 because that was the biggest installed user base. That was the only reason.

In Guitar Hero 2 zullen ze proberen om weer een ijzersterke line-up van songs te krijgen. In deel 1 was het bijvoorbeeld niet gelukt om Metallica en ACDC te krijgen: I know, and we were so disappointed when we couldn't get [Metallica and ACDC]. Yeah, I think we are beginning to see that, and fingers crossed for Guitar Hero 2, that should make a big difference. The way that we do things is that, we currently have 7 or 8 songs in the game, and it's not like we are hiding the rest of them somewhere. We haven't gotten them all yet. We license them as we go, get the recordings done at WaveGroup if we are going to do a cover version of it, or we get the master originals for the game.
