The Clash was de coolste, de politiek meest bewuste en de meest baanbrekende punkband die Engeland ooit heeft gekend. Dat onderschrijft ook het toonaangevende Amerikaanse muziekmagazine Rolling Stone dat "London Calling" uitriep tot het beste album van de jaren '80. In 1982 hield The Clash op te bestaan: voor zeven succesvolle jaren vol non-stop touren en studiowerk moesten de leden uiteindelijk een hoge prijs betalen.
