Iwata maakt zich zorgen over lancering Wii U
Nintendo's president Iwata heeft in een interview aangegeven dat hij zich zorgen maakt over de lancering van de Wii U die volgend jaar plaatsvindt. Hij is bang dat kopers de console niet bij de launch kopen omdat men wellicht zou denken dat deze net als de 3DS snel afgeprijsd wordt.
De Nintendo 3DS is vanaf 12 augustus 170 euro in plaats van de 250 euro bij de lancering. Iwata geeft aan dat dit een noodzakelijke beslissing is geweest en dat het terugwinnen van het vertrouwen van de consument zeer belangrijk is voor Nintendo:
“With regard to the influence on the Wii U, what we have to take most seriously is that the price markdown could damage the trust of the consumers who bought the Nintendo 3DS just after the launch. I feel greatly accountable for it. Our decision of the price markdown this time has a side effect that, at the launch of the Wii U, people may feel that the price might drop in the near future if they wait. Nevertheless, we have decided to cut down the price of the Nintendo 3DS as we consider it as a necessary decision now. What we will be able to do to recover the consumers’ trust before the launch of the Wii U is very important to us.”
Iwata gaat verder door te vertellen dat we voorlopig nog even moeten wachten op een datum en prijs voor de Nintendo Wii U. Deze zal ergens na 31 maart 2012 pas bekendgemaakt worden. Het apparaat is nog in ontwikkeling en zal volgens Iwata meer worden dan een Wii met veranderde interface. Wij zijn benieuwd.
