Chris Sawyer klaagt Atari aan voor $4.8 miljoen

De welbekende ontwikkelaar van de Rollercoaster Tycoon serie, Chris Sawyer klaagt Atari aan voor $4.8 miljoen vanwege niet betaalde royalties.

Sawyer claimt dat Atari contractbreuk pleegde door auditors (controleurs) de toegang te weigeren van de boekhouding tussen 1999 en 2001. Na een analyse door eigen auditors claimt Sawyer dat Atari hem nog $4.8 miljoen schuldig is. Daar komen nog rente en proceskosten bij. Tevens wil hij het recht op een complete audit tussen 1 januari 1999 en nu.

Het hooggerechtshof heeft bepaald dat de rechtszaak in Londen moet voorkomen en niet in New York zoals Atari wenst.

Sawyers agent Guy Herbert had geen goed woord over voor Atari:
"Throughout this process Atari Interactive has sought to delay the claims. Royalty queries were simply ignored, forcing an audit; non-cooperation with the audit forced Chris to sue. Thankfully this ruling should put paid to that, and an end is in sight.

If Chris proves his claim that Atari Interactive has failed to account properly and substantially underpaid, it could have major ramifications for the industry as well as the company."
