Vaticaan vergeeft John Lennon
L'Osservatore Romano, de semi-officiële krant van het Vaticaan, brengt in haar laatste editie een ode aan The Beatles. Opmerkelijk, omdat The Beatles en het Vaticaan nooit goede vriendjes zijn geweest. De katholieke gezagsdragers waren in de jaren zestig bijvoorbeeld not amused toen John Lennon The Beatles 'populairder dan Jezus Christus' noemde.
Het Vaticaan lijkt de plooien nu glad te strijken in een artikel ter gelegenheid van de veertigste verjaardag van The White Album. De uitspraak van Lennon van destijds was slechts een vorm van 'opschepperij', aldus de redacteur van de krant, van een 'jongen uit een Engels arbeidersmilieu die opgroeide in de tijd van Elvis Presley en rock 'n roll, en die plots veel succes genoot'.
In de rest van het artikel wordt de muziek van The Beatles geprezen om haar eeuwigheidswaarde. Vergeleken met de 'stereotiepe' liedjes van nu waren The Beatles creatief, aldus de krant. Of men in het Vaticaan inmiddels ook al naar "Sympathy for the Devil" van de Rolling Stones durft luisteren, is niet bekend.

Het Vaticaan luistert net als de Islam niet naar mensen, maar naar statements.

Zoiets noem je dan niet 'radiovriendelijk', maar eerder censuur of verkrachting van een nummer.
Helaas is de VS het land waar Atheïsten worden gelijkgesteld met kindermoordenaars en is het voor hen onmogelijk een publieke functie te krijgen. Discriminatie van deze 'ongelovigen' is aan de orde van de dag.
Toeval dat Lennon daar is neergeschoten? Is die Chapman ook zo'n godsdienstwaanzinnige? Na het eten maar eventjes wikipedia erop na slaan.
