Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II krijgt een uitbreiding, de titel ervan is The Rise of the Witch-King, zo werd gisteren bevestigd. Vandaag komt EA naar buiten met wat informatie en de eerste twee screenshots.

In de expansion krijg je de beschikking over een geheel nieuwe factie, een nieuwe singleplayer campagne en extra units voor alle zes reeds bestaande facties. De expansie richt zich vooral op de boosaardige kant van Middle-Earth en vertelt hoe de Witch-King aan de macht kwam en het Koninkrijk Arnor (waar Aragorns voorouders vandaan komen) binnenviel. De Angmar factie is speelbaar in skirmish, multiplayer, en War of the Ring mode.

Volgens Mike Verdu, Executive Producer bij EA biedt de expansie vooral meer strategische diepte: "The Lord of Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, The Rise of the Witch-king” will transport players to a new time and place in Middle-earth while adding strategic depth to the innovative gameplay gamers loved in The Lord of Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II. Fans will love exploring the evil side of Middle-earth as described in Tolkien's fiction and brought to life in the visual style of the New Line Cinema films. This game is set to deliver the ultimate RTS Middle-earth experience."

De expansie wordt deze winter verwacht.
