Producent Sputnik-vaccin eist excuus van EMA
De makers van het Russische coronavaccin Sputnik-V eisen op hun twitteraccount een excuus van het Europees Geneesmiddelenbureau (EMA). Christa Wirthumer-Hoche van het EMA had geadviseerd het middel niet alvast via een spoedprocedure goed te keuren. Ze vergeleek dat met “Russische roulette”.
Die opmerking schoot de makers van het middel in het verkeerde keelgat. “We eisen een publieke verontschuldiging van Christa Wirthumer-Hoche van het EMA voor haar negatieve opmerkingen over EU-lidstaten die Sputnik-V rechtstreeks goedkeuren”, klagen ze op hun officiële Twitteraccount. “Het EMA heeft niet toegestaan dat dergelijke mededelingen zijn gedaan over andere vaccins. Dit soort uitspraken zijn ongepast en ondermijnen de geloofwaardigheid van het EMA en het beoordelingsproces.” Meer hierover bij Skipr.
EMA did not allow such statements about any other vaccine. Such comments are inappropriate and undermine credibility of EMA and its review process. Vaccines and EMA should be above and beyond politics.

Europeans deserve an unbiased review as was undertaken by 46 other countries. After postponing Sputnik V review for months, EMA does not have the right to undermine credibility of 46 other regulators that reviewed all of the necessary data.
