Defecte Xbox eist bijna eerste slachtoffer

In de plaats Anglesey in Wales heeft de grote, zwarte doos van Microsoft bijna zijn eerste dodelijke slachtoffer geëist. Een vrouw werd bewusteloos aangetroffen in haar huis nadat een Xbox was doorgebrand en het hele huis had gevuld met een wolk van dikke, zwarte rook. Stuart Ward en Robert Johnson die net uit een pub kwamen zagen dat er iets ernstig mis was in het huis. Ze gingen naar binnen en troffen daar de vrouw aan. De vrouw moest in het ziekenhuis worden opgenomen, maar gelukkig is ze inmiddels weer volledig hersteld.

Inside were the woman and her father, who had rushed to the scene in response to a call from his daughter before she was overcome. Ward recalled: "We shouted 'Is anybody there?' The next thing the father upstairs answered 'Yes, I'm upstairs'. We shouted 'Anybody else in the house, we can't see.'

"We put some coats over our mouths and ran upstairs. Robert and I were swearing and the father was shouting 'My daughter's here!'. We were going on our hands and knees - that's how dark it was. You couldn't see your fingers if you put them in front of your eyes.

"We felt our way around the darkness. We found her and dragged and carried her down the stairs and outside. She was going in and out of consciousness."

Johnson added: "We could only feel our way about. The father was stumbling around. He couldn't find his daughter. We found her on the floor.

Dave Evans van de brandweer van Anglesey bevestigde dat het ging om een fout in een Xbox. In februari riep Microsoft al miljoenen Xbox voedingkabels terug omdat er een defect was geconstateerd. Het is niet de eerste keer dat het fout gaat. Microsoft heeft toegegeven al ongeveer dertig meldingen te hebben gehad van gebruikers met lichte brandwonden en verschroeide stoffering en tapijten ten gevolgen van kapotte voedingkabels.
