Emilia Pérez en Shōgun domineren Golden Globe Awars
Het is weer zover: het startschot van het awardseizoen is gegeven! Hoewel de grote finale pas in maart plaatsvindt met de Oscars, zetten de Golden Globes alvast de toon voor wat komen gaat. Deze avond fungeert vaak als een eerste indicatie van welke films, series en artiesten dit jaar in de prijzen zullen vallen.
De Golden Globes onderscheiden prijzen in drie hoofdcategorieën: Films (Drama), Films (Musical of Comedy), en TV. Bij de drama’s ging de prestigieuze titel van Beste Film naar The Brutalist. Deze indrukwekkende productie vertelt het verhaal van een architect, gespeeld door Adrien Brody, die na de Tweede Wereldoorlog vanuit Europa naar de Verenigde Staten vlucht. Een andere opvallende winnaar is Emilia Pérez, een gedurfde film over een transgender drugslord en de gevolgen van haar moedige keuze om van geslacht te veranderen. Verrassend genoeg wist Anora, dat door velen als favoriet werd gezien, niet te winnen.
Een van de meest besproken momenten van de avond was de overwinning van Demi Moore in de categorie Beste Actrice (Musical of Comedy). Haar rol in de horrorfilm The Substance bracht haar een welverdiende Globe. Het is opvallend, aangezien horror zelden wordt erkend tijdens dergelijke ceremonies. Moore’s prestatie wordt unaniem geprezen als ijzersterk, en deze bekroning voelt als een doorbraak voor het genre.
Ook op televisiegebied viel er veel te vieren. Shōgun, dat eerder al indruk maakte bij de Emmy Awards, domineerde opnieuw met maar liefst vier Golden Globes, waaronder die voor Beste Serie en drie acteerprijzen.
Het awardseizoen is hiermee spectaculair afgetrapt. Alle ogen zijn nu gericht op de Oscars, waar de kaarten opnieuw geschud kunnen worden. Wie weet wat ons nog te wachten staat?
