Achtergebleven Azovstal-soldaten: "We zullen blijven vechten zolang we nog leven"
De Oekraïense strijders die nog vastzitten in de belegerde staalfabriek Azovstal willen indien nodig hun verzet tot het bittere einde voortzetten. "We zullen blijven vechten zolang we leven om de Russische bezetters af te weren", zei kapitein Svyatoslav Palamar, plaatsvervangend commandant van het Oekraïense Azov-regiment, op een online conferentie via Zoom.
"We hebben niet veel tijd, we liggen zwaar onder vuur", zegt hij, terwijl hij de internationale gemeenschap om hulp vraagt bij het evacueren van gewonde soldaten uit de faciliteit in de zuidoostelijke havenstad Mariupol. Palamar voegt eraan toe dat hij niet kan bevestigen dat alle burgers inmiddels zijn geëvacueerd uit de staalfabriek.
Azov Lt. Samoilenko lays into Ukrainian authorities saying “the government failed the defense of Mariupol.” He says officials “have been sabotaging the defense of Ukraine for the last eight years.” He refers to all authorities since 2014.
