Saoedische vrouw vast op luchthaven Bangkok
Een 18-jarige Saoedische vrouw zit vast op de luchthaven van Bangkok, nadat ze was weggevlucht uit Saoedi-Arabië. Ze wilde naar Australië om daar asiel aan te vragen en moest overstappen in Bangkok. Daar namen Saoedische diplomaten haar paspoort af en wordt ze nu vastgehouden in een hotel op de luchthaven. Volgens haar berichten op Twitter staan er 4 bewakers voor de deur en wilden ze haar dwingen om een vlucht terug te nemen.
Rahaf Mohammed Mutlaq Al-Qunun heeft de Islam afgezworen omdat ze graag wil studeren en werken. Die vrijheid had ze niet en dus wilde ze de Islam verlaten. Ze heeft haar haar kortgeknipt maar haar familie was streng en sloot haar 6 maanden op. Familie van haar heeft al gedreigd haar te vermoorden en personeel van de Saoedische ambassade en Kuwait Airlines heeft gedreigd haar te ontvoeren en terug te brengen. Via Twitter plaatst ze wanhopige berichten dat ze de VN wil spreken en stuurt ze tweets naar ambassades. Volgens andere tweets zou de VN intussen doorgedrongen zijn tot in haar hotelkamer en haar in bescherming hebben genomen.
Update 14:00 uur:
Volgens Sophie McNeill, een Midden-Oosten correspondent van ABC, is ze van de luchthaven getransporteerd en naar een "veilige plek" gebracht.
Update 15:25 uur:
En weer twee tweets van Rahaf. Ze twitterde dat ze heeft gehoord dat haar vader is aangekomen en dat ze ervan geschrokken is en erg ongerust maakt. Ze wil zo snel mogelijk naar een ander land om daar asiel aan te vragen. Ze bevestigde ook dat ze zich veilig voelt met bescherming door de VN met toestemming van de Thaise autoriteiten. En ze heeft haar paspoort terug!
Ze besluit met "dit was het, tot ik naar een derde land kan vertrekken zoals beloofd", wat erop wijst dat ze vertrouwen heeft in een goede afloop.
